Decorating a space for the newest member of the family is exciting, but which colour should you choose?
If you don’t know whether you’re having a boy or a girl, or you aren’t keen on traditional shades, give neutral, on-trend grey a whirl.
Cool, calm and collected, grey works beautifully in a nursery and, because it goes with anything, will make the perfect backdrop for all your newborn’s colourful toys and accessories.
Thanks to our super-tough Easycare formula, marks and splashes can easily be wiped away, too.
Best of all, it won’t look babyish as your child grows – simply swap out the accessories to create a space fit for a tween.
Greys come in many tones, so try a selection. Our testers make comparing colours a breeze: order a few to be delivered free of charge so you can get a feel of which shades look good together in your space.
As a general rule, greys with warm undertones work best in north-facing rooms, while sunny spaces can take cooler hues.
Give the scheme depth by mixing two or three toning shades. Shades such as Pebble Shore combined with soft Goose Down will add interest to the space.
Pale Rock Salt, meanwhile, is light enough to add a fresh touch, but creates a softer mood than pure white.
To give the scheme a more decorative edge, why not try painting wide stripes in two or three greys? Follow our step-by-step guide to achieve the perfect result.
For a less formal effect, you could simply paint one fat stripe down a section of wall; or try dividing the room in two horizontally, using the lighter shade at the top.
Panels of colour behind shelving or pictures are another good way to either introduce an extra tone or link with one of your main colours.
As a finishing touch, tactile textiles in complementary shades, like these rugs and blankets, will add softness – perfect for your baby’s journey to the land of nod.
